The goal of this contest is to breed bargain horses and win 10 allowance races with those breedings. The largest part of the strategy is to accumulate breeding points. I will need a maximum of 50 BPs per breeding, for a total of 500 to make 10 bargain breds. To accumulate BPs, I must enter horses to maximize my chance of getting breeding points. Here are some "rules" I will be following to accumulate the BPs:
Enter races with less than 5 entries when possible. This means guaranteed BPs. It also means entering races just a few hours before the entries close for the week.
Never travel for more than $600 (1 BP). Try to travel for less than $300, but if not possible it is OK to go up to 1 BP.
Run in claiming races as much as possible. If I have a legitimate allowance horse, then it is OK to run it there. Don't worry about losing a horse in a claiming race. Enough horses are available each week in the auction.
Add horses by the auction, not claiming. Claiming costs at least 5 BPs. It also costs $$, which is harder to come by due to the new betting rules. I can get similar horses in the auction for less $$ than I would spend claiming.
If one of the cheap auction purchases comes back from a race less than ready to go, then put it in the auction with $0 reserve. These horses must run every two weeks. The original CPU horses should run every two weeks also, but if there is a competitive allowance horse in the group, then it is OK to give it a less demanding schedule.
Race to the best conditions possible. For example, a maiden will only run in maiden races, or a horse with one win will race in non winners of 2 lifetime races (when possible, but the horse must run every two weeks), run fillies and mares in filly and mare races, etc.
Race at the same track when possible. This rule does not supercede the the other rules mentioned above.
Not winning but finishing in the top 5 (especially the top 3 since there is a claiming bonus for each consecutive time a horse finishes in the top 3) is a good thing.
One oberservation is that non United States claiming turf races seem to require the lowest BP to compete.
As for breeding horses I will try to breed one every two weeks (more often if I can). I will try to breed the sons of successful sim sires. Use Super Sim Searcher to determine successful breedings in the sim and try to replicate those. The other method will be to look for top sires, broodmare sires IRL and use them for breeding. I will also try to use combinations that will have the best breeding for a 2yo. Finally, always breed at the end of the week since that is when the lowest prices are available.
